I’m going to look just like Gwen Stefani!

So you are browsing the hair care aisle at the grocery store.  Your boyfriend has told you how much he would love to see you as a blonde.  All of a sudden your eyes meet with Gwen Setfani’s on the hair color box.   “I’m going to look just like Gwen Stefani!”  and off you go to the check out lane.  gwen luster salon blonde

Fast forward 2-3 hours and in between the tears, you curse your boyfriend AND Gwen.  What was supposed to be a perfect platinum blonde has turned out to be a mess of rings that would rival Saturn’s.  Bright tangerine at the root, incandescent copper after that and then a crazy mix of you don’t know what the heck just happened.

As professional colorists, we take into account a long list of factors when consulting with a hair color client:  what is your natural color (even if we can’t see it!), do you have any grey, how often do you color your hair, what colors have you been, have you had any other chemical service done on your hair, what type of maintenance are you comfortable with, and so and so on.  We take the time to consult so the client understands what can and cannot be achieved the day of their appointment.

What to bring to your next Salon appointment

Ok, so you are ready for a change and your appointment is booked.  But wait, do you have all the tools and info before you walk in the door?  Here are some tips for a successful Salon visit:

Bring your inspiration: Photographs and examples of haircolor you love will help you and your stylist explore your color options—and ensure that you both mean the same thing when you say, “honey blonde,” or “scarlet red.”  You can always email any photos you may have gathered across the web and email them to info@lustersalon.com.  When you arrive, we will have them preloaded onto our iPad to use during your consultation.Luster salon redken blonde

 Know your history: Be prepared to tell your stylist about any prior color services, whether it was highlights last year or a color gloss last month.  

Trust Your Stylist: Listen to your stylist’s expert opinion. During your color consultation, she will consider your desired result, then evaluate your hair’s condition and look at your skin tone and coloring in order to create your custom color formulation.  

Ask questions: If you hear a color term you don’t understand, don’t hesitate to ask your stylist for an explanation. Remember to inquire about maintenance—how often you’ll need to return to the salon for touchups, and how to best maintain your color at home between visits with the best possible haircare products.
